It was great to see such a large turn out to Peter Appleby’s home on Sunday afternoon to celebrate Christmas. The fellowship and food were excellent. A special thanks to Santa (Geoff Topping) and his helper (Sarah Mundt) who purchased the gifts. To Bill and his family for giving the pony rides and a very special thanks to Peter, John and Susan on all their effort in making such a great afternoon.
As part of our 30th Anniversary Ipswich City Rotary Club ran an evening meeting on Thursday 21st October. This was a departure from our usual breakfast meeting format which provided an opportunity for our members to enjoy an extended fellowship, bring partners, guests and/or prospective new members.
Our Guest speaker was Megan Davidson talking about her experiences in the Royal Australian Army as an Officer and with Back Track Adventures as a Trek Leader where she guides people across the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea and the Inca Trail in South America.
Megan spoke of the true Kakoda story and the reasons why people go on the trek. Megan has trekked Kakoda 11 times, 9 times as a guide and once in a race where she now has the title of fastest woman to run the track in 36hours. Megans passion now lies with Orangutans in Borneo and Malaysia where she runs revegetation and conservation projects.
On the 7th of October our very own Peter McMahon set off to Alexandra Egypt, to swim in the World Master’s Surf Lifesaving Championship.
